I wasn’t sure what I would think of this book when I first downloaded it onto my Kindle. This was my second book read in the year, and I knew I wanted to start reading more books on wealth and making money.
So, I picked up a book from a trusted author here on Medium, Niklas Göke. He has been around this website for ages, and I have always loved his writing, so I thought I would give his book a try.
Sure enough, he didn’t disappoint. After reading his book, I realized this is the book I wish I had when I was in college trying to figure out personal finance. Instead, I muddled along well into my 30s before getting a handle on things.
The Good
There were three things I enjoyed about this book. First, I love how each section is broken into a four-minute read. You can quickly plow through the book in 20 minutes, or you can follow along with one chapter at a time for 44 days.
Second, this is a collection of priceless information from dozens of books and Nik’s own experience. I loved that I saw some things from books I had read and things that applied to our world today.
Lastly, I loved that it had practical application at the end of each chapter. For the things I had never heard before, it helped me put them into practice. This is helpful because I learn a lot more by doing instead of just reading.
The Bad
Honestly, there isn’t a lot of bad about this book. Some things felt like general information that most people know. But again, I understand why it is in there. The foundation is needed for anyone, especially if you start from zero.
Other Thoughts
The information for this book is so helpful. Having application points at the end is so helpful too. I used my Dividend Investing Dad Notebook to keep track of each practical exercise and regularly went back to it.
Also, I think this should be required reading for people just starting out. Mostly, because the references alone are a source or knowledge to follow up on more specific things that someone would want to dig deeper into later.
Conclusions
This is a five-star book all the way around. If you have extensive knowledge of investing and handling your finances you may not need this book. However, if you are starting out or want to try and organize your thought on finances and money, this book is for you.
The great thing is that it won’t break the bank either. This is a book worth buying and it would give you a lot of insight that you can refer to over and over again.
